Wednesday, February 22nd is National Pink Shirt Day.
To encourage support and participation, we will be using this day as a grade war challenge. The grade with the most students dressed in pink solidarity against bullying wins the challenge As well, Shaw will be donating $1 towards bullying prevention programs each time a positive message is shared on social media using the hashtag #pinkshirtpromise If you are new to high school or looking for information about John Taylor Collegiate please join us February 16 for our open house/information evening.
The national CEMC Math Contest from the University of Waterloo (Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat) takes place February 28, 2017. Please see Mrs. Bergmuller (Room 212) or your math teacher if you wish to participate.Kennedy and Sienna have started their second semester Health Care Aid Program with a group of 15 adults taking the course. Besides still having to finish their first semester exams the HCA course is going well.
Marlene and Donna from Crestview United Church spoiled our students and staff the first day of exams with a table full of Goodies and hot chocolate. These two former teachers went overboard for our kids. JT has a great partnership with the Church by providing volunteers for their Christmas Fund raising Dinner.
Study hard Pipers!!! RCMP say they've used naloxone in a life-saving situation for the first time since they started carrying the opioid antidote.
Our next JT Parent Advisory meeting will be January 25 at 7 PM and contain a special 30 minute presentation on the Fentanyl drug crisis in Winnipeg. In December officials with the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg union have declared it a crisis, saying their paramedics are seeing overdoses on a daily basis in all areas of the city and across all socio-economic backgrounds. The UFFW has launched a public awareness campaign with commercials and billboards, urging the public to talk to family and friends about the dangers "before tragedy strikes home." This is a great chance to get educated about this growing problem. Join us for a coffee and refreshments. A similar presentation will be given to students in February.
