Our math department and student council celebrated Pi Day by selling slices of pie and by having student purchase the opportunity to pie their favorite teacher. In one lunch hour we raise close to $300 for our Free the Children Campaign. Above, Daria slams Mr. Hardman with a tasty whip cream pie. February and March are busy times for students in JT music ensembles. Band, Choir, Drumline and Guitar students performed at at Winter Concert Feb 9th. Junior and Senior band students made our annual trips to the Optimist Band Festival. The JT Choirs and Guitar ensembles also performed at the Winnipeg Music Festival. All the ensembles sounded very good and worked hard to get ready for these events. We also had had great adjudicators that gave is tips on how to play even better.
Our Musical "Annie" is coming up April 11-13. Stay tuned for more information. May 1st is Music Monday across Canada. The Senior Band and Choir will be joining with our feeder schools Hedges, Buchanan, Lakewood, Crestview and Voyaguer for our annual "Family of Schools Concert" May 1st at 7pm in the JT Gym. There will also be an Art Show in the hallway from John Taylor and our Family of Schools during the Family of Schools concert. Please come and enjoy the music and check out the art. Our next JT parent Advisory meeting will be held on March 15 at 6:30 pm in the Library.
This is an important meeting as it allows parents to have input future staffing at our school especially with regards to administrative staffing which can change year to year. So please join us for a coffee and snack next Wednesday. This year the boys indoor soccer team played as part of the HSISL High School Indoor Soccer League. The games are all played at CANLAN Sports Centre. The other teams in our league are Gordon Bell. Sisler, Maples, Shaftsbury, Sturgeon Heights and Daniel McIntyre Collegiates.
Many of our players have been part of the Soccer Academy at John Taylor in past years. Many of our International Students from Brazil, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Germany and Spain join the team and play while they are studying here. Last week this term's grade 10 French students took a trip to Festival du Voyageur. It was a beautiful day and the students were able to learn about the history, culture and day in the life of the voyageurs. They also tried their hand in sash-weaving, la tire d'érable and enjoyed a music show!

The St. James-Assiniboia School Board is having their Annual Budget Meeting on March 2, 2017 7:00pm at the school board office on 2574 Portage Avenue. Congratulations to our JV Girls B-ball team who defeated Brandon Vincent Massey 45-35 in the finals of the Linden Christian Tournament. Our girls are getting ready for WWAC play-off and chance to attend the Provincials in a couple of weeks. Great Job players and coaches.
